Smartphones and Tablets Could Change the Game for Good

http://www.tmcnet.com/topics/articles/2012/02/09/264861-smartphones-tablets-could-change-game-good.htm

According to a recent study completed by Transparency Market Research, tablet and smartphone sales skyrocketed in the last year and will continue to grow quickly as experts expect tablet and smartphone sales to jump to 248.6 million and 1,048 million units respectively, by 2015.

Recent research suggests that form factor plays a crucial role in the adoption of tablets by consumers. Tablet devices with screen sizes ranging 8-10 inches and weighing one to two pounds were the most popular. They have become popular not only amongst the consumer segment of the market, but in businesses and media sectors as well.  Although Asian markets are still the biggest consumers of tablets, Americans are beginning to choose them over laptops as well. In 2010, 25 percent of Americans preferred tablets to laptops, and that number has grown as affordability and access has increased.

One major reason smartphone use has increased drastically is due to the applications and assistance they offer in the business world. Currently, 75 percent of total smartphone consumers are using their devices for both personal and business purposes. Companies love them too, as 65 percent of global SMBs encourage employee owned smartphones for official use. And why shouldn’t they? By allowing employees to use personal smartphones, companies can save money by not having to offer “company” phones and still integrate programs for employees to use via cheap affordable applications downloaded straight to the device at little or no cost.

Smartphones & Tablets may see an Exponential growth in Sales by 2015

Slowly and Steadily, Smartphones, and now Tablets are becoming an inevitable component of our “connected” lifestyle. It is very hard to imagine a person who belongs to the fast paced, modern world without either of these Gadgets.

According to a market report @ http://www.transparencymarketresearch.com/tablet-and-smartphones-market.html compiled by Transparency Market research, around 67 million tablets and 468.9 million Smartphones were sold in 2011. Considering the annual growth rate of tablets and Smartphones around the globe, the report suggested, that this figure would grow to 248.6 million tablets and 1.05 billion Smartphone by the year 2015. The report also suggested that in 2015, about 39.5% of market for tablet and Smartphone would exist in Asian countries.

In 2011, several companies released tablet computers, most of them ran Android but all those tablets got immense response and that’s the reason why the sales of tablet market saw a growth of 275.5% from 17.8 million units in 2010. Apple iPad 2, which was released in March, held the top spot in the list of bestselling tablet computer of 2011.

Like the tablet market, Smartphone market also expanded exponentially in 2011, in fact, the total amount of Smartphones shipped in fourth quarter of 2011 surpassed the number of Smartphones sold in the year 2008.

Fourth quarter of 2011 was pretty successful for Apple too, they released the new and improved iPhone 4S which sold over 36 million units worldwide.

It would not be overly optimistic to say that these predictions have high probability of coming true.

Tablet and Smartphone Sales Expected to Grow Astronomically by 2015

A few years ago, tablets were merely a blip on consumer radars. Today, they’re one of the hottest and fastest growing markets in the tech world. According to Transparency Market Research, 67 million tablet units were sold worldwide in 2011 alone – and that figure is expected to almost quadruple by the end of 2015 to 248.6 million. In addition, smartphone sales reached 468.9 million units in 2011, a 66.7 percent increase year-over-year. That figure is predicted to reach an incredible 1 billion in 2015, with Asia anticipated to account for almost 40 percent of the market. http://www.transparencymarketresearch.com/tablet-and-smartphones-market.html

The driving force behind the increase in tablet popularity has been Apple’s iPad. In fact, the device helped the tablet market grow by  276.5 percent in 2011 compared to the year prior. TMR said that form factor plays a huge role in consumer decisions, revealing that tablets in the 8 – 10-inch range were the most popular. Tablet adoption grew most amongst the consumer segment – as expected – while businesses preferred “communicators.”

Smartphone sales were said to have reached 469.9 million units in 2011, growing by 66.7 percent compared to 2010. Q4 smartphones sales alone surpasses the entirety of 2008, TMR said. “This leap in sales came on account of consumer as well as enterprise adoption of iPhone 4S, which posted 36.1 million units sales to end user in Q42011 alone.”
